JOB ROLE: Assistant Quantity Surveyor
LOCATION: Sittingbourne, Kent
SALARY: £40k - £50k + competitive package
START DATE: July 2026
About the Role:
RGM Recruitment Ltd is pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join an award-winning regional residential developer based in Kent. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop their career within a leading residential developer, working alongside experienced Quantity Surveyors across multiple live projects. The successful candidate will assist in the commercial management of developments from procurement through to final account, ensuring projects are delivered within budget while maintaining strong relationships with subcontractors and internal stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with the commercial management of residential construction projects from pre-construction through to completion.
- Support the preparation of budgets, cost plans and cash flow forecasts.
- Assist in the procurement of subcontractors, including preparing tender documentation, analysing quotations and making recommendations.
- Prepare and issue subcontract orders in accordance with company procedures.
- Measure and value subcontractor works for interim and final payments.
- Monitor project costs, identify cost variations and report on commercial performance.
- Assist in the preparation and agreement of variation accounts.
- Support the production of monthly cost reports and valuations.
- Maintain accurate commercial records and ensure all documentation is up to date.
- Liaise with site management teams to monitor progress and resolve commercial issues.
- Assist with final accounts and the commercial close-out of projects.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with subcontractors, suppliers and internal departments.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, contractual obligations and health and safety requirements.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the commercial team.
Requirements:
- Degree or HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying or a related construction discipline (or working towards).
- Previous experience in a Quantity Surveying role within the construction industry, ideally residential housebuilding.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Good commercial awareness and a willingness to learn.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
