JOB ROLE: Design Manager
LOCATION: Maidstone, Kent
SALARY: £60k - £70k + competitive package
START DATE: April 2026

RGM Recruitment Ltd is excited to present an opportunity for a Design Manager working with a leading specialist joinery and fit out contractor, delivering high-quality bespoke solutions for commercial and high end fit out projects. With a strong reputation for craftsmanship and attention to detail, they pride themselves on creating exceptional spaces that combine design excellence with flawless execution.
They are seeking an experienced Design Manager with a solid background in carpentry and joinery to join their dynamic team. This is a site-based role, perfect for someone who thrives in a hands-on environment and enjoys overseeing projects from concept through to completion.
Key Responsibilities:

Lead the design process for joinery and fit out projects, ensuring feasibility, functionality and aesthetic quality.

Collaborate with clients, architects and the site team to translate design concepts into practical solutions.

Prepare and review detailed drawings, specifications and schedules.

Oversee the production and installation of bespoke joinery items, maintaining the highest standards of quality.

Manage design-related site issues, providing proactive solutions to keep projects on schedule.

Mentor and guide junior designers and workshop staff, fostering a culture of craftsmanship and attention to detail.
Requirements:

Proven experience working in a carpentry, joinery, or specialist fit out company.

Strong understanding of woodworking, bespoke joinery and fit out processes.

Experience managing design teams and coordinating with on-site construction teams.

Proficiency in CAD software and other relevant design tools.

Excellent communication, problem-solving and leadership skills.

Ability to work on-site for the duration of projects, with occasional travel to workshops and client sites.
