JOB ROLE: Senior Quantity Surveyor
LOCATION: Maidstone, Kent
SALARY: £75k - £85k + competitive package
START DATE: May 2026
About the Role:
RGM Recruitment Ltd is pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join an award-winning regional residential developer based in Kent. The business is known for delivering high-quality, traditionally built housing developments across Kent and the Southern Home Counties.
This role is ideally suited to an experienced commercial professional who can take ownership of multiple projects, provide strategic commercial oversight and support the wider commercial function in delivering profitable residential schemes.
Key Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you will play a pivotal role in the commercial management of residential developments from pre-construction through to final account. Responsibilities will include:
- Taking full commercial responsibility for multiple live residential projects at varying stages of the build lifecycle
- Managing and reviewing project budgets, forecasts and cost plans to ensure financial targets are met or exceeded
- Preparing, managing and presenting detailed Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs), including analysis of cost movements, risks and opportunities
- Leading procurement strategy for subcontract packages, including preparation of tender documentation, bid analysis and recommendation reports
- Negotiating subcontract terms, conditions and final accounts to ensure best value and risk mitigation
- Administering subcontractor accounts, including valuations, variations and payment certifications in line with contractual obligations
- Identifying, managing and mitigating commercial risks and opportunities across all projects
- Reviewing construction programmes and working closely with site teams to ensure alignment between commercial and operational delivery
- Leading and chairing pre-start and progress meetings with subcontractors, consultants and internal stakeholders
- Providing commercial guidance and support to site management teams to drive cost efficiency and programme adherence
- Monitoring and managing change control processes, including valuation of variations and agreement of additional works
- Ensuring compliance with contractual requirements, company procedures and industry best practices
- Supporting the Commercial Manager with reporting, strategic planning and mentoring of junior commercial staff where required
Requirements:
- Proven experience operating at Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor level within the construction industry
- Strong track record in delivering residential housing schemes for developers or main contractors
- Relevant qualification (HNC/HND/Degree) in Quantity Surveying or a construction-related discipline
- Excellent commercial awareness with strong negotiation and financial management skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work autonomously in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships across all project stakeholders
