JOB ROLE: Senior Quantity Surveyor
LOCATION: Chatham, Kent
SALARY: £75k - £85k + competitive package
START DATE: September 2026
About the Role:
RGM Recruitment Ltd is excited to present an opportunity for a Senior Quantity Surveyor on behalf of a Regional Main Contractor with an outstanding reputation for delivering high-quality projects throughout Kent and the South East. This is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established business with a diverse portfolio spanning the residential, commercial, heritage and education sectors. Projects typically range from £5m - £15m in value.
Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you will take commercial responsibility for multiple projects from pre-construction through to final account, ensuring commercial success while maintaining strong client and supply chain relationships. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in delivering projects safely, profitably and to the highest standards, working closely with operational teams, clients, consultants and subcontractors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Managing the commercial and contractual aspects of multiple construction projects from pre-construction through to final account.
- Preparing accurate cost plans, budgets, forecasts and monthly commercial reports.
- Procuring subcontractor and supplier packages, including tender analysis and contract negotiations.
- Managing subcontractor accounts, applications for payment, variations and final accounts.
- Preparing and submitting client valuations, applications for payment and cost/value reconciliations.
- Identifying, managing and mitigating commercial risks to maximise project profitability.
- Monitoring project expenditure and implementing effective cost control measures.
- Working collaboratively with Project Managers and Site Teams to ensure commercial objectives are achieved.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors and suppliers.
- Providing commercial guidance and mentoring to junior members of the commercial team where required.
- Ensuring compliance with company procedures, contractual obligations and industry best practice.
Requirements:
- Proven experience operating as a Senior Quantity Surveyor or an experienced Quantity Surveyor ready to step into a senior role within a main contracting environment.
- Demonstrable experience delivering projects across one or more of the residential, commercial, heritage or education sectors.
- Strong understanding of JCT forms of contract and construction procurement methods.
- Experience managing projects from tender stage through to final account.
- Excellent commercial awareness with strong negotiation, financial management and contractual knowledge.
- Relevant qualification (HNC/HND/Degree) in Quantity Surveying or a related construction discipline.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
